Type 347 is an excellent choice for both aqueous and cold environments. The polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking that occurs in oil refineries is a common concern, and both material 347 and material 321 have good resistance to them. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel type 347 is slightly higher than that of stainless steel type 321, even when both types are subjected to strongly oxidizing conditions. Because of its exceptional resistance to intergranular assault and columbium-based stability.
The alloy known as 347 for applications using stainless steel bars is recommended for either intermittent heating between 800 degrees Fahrenheit (427 degrees Celsius) and 1650 degrees Fahrenheit (899 degrees Celsius) or welding under conditions that prevent a post-weld anneal being investigated.
Machinability is excellent –
Stainless 347 material will produce stringy chips, but they will be slightly more durable than 304. This alloy’s tendency to become hard can be mitigated by employing rapid cutting rates and maintaining a positive feed throughout the process.
Welding without difficulty –
Various methods are available for welding 347, including fusion and resistance welding. Oxyacetylene welding is not something that is advised.
Having to Work in Extreme Temperatures –
Temperatures of 2100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher must be maintained in the workplace during activities such as forging and upsetting. Even if it requires much initial force, it is still possible to stamp, blank, spin, and draw the material to complete the cold work.
